Australia

To say that Sport is a way of life in Australia is an enormous understatement! Such is the Australian population's devotion towards sport that it is sometimes humorously described as "Australia's national religion". The Aussie’s truly enjoy a very rich sporting history & culture. Australian athletes have excelled in a range of sports globally, and their government supported system has a lot to do with this success. The Australian government spends the most money in the world per capita on elite athlete development and fittingly they have led the last four Olympic Games in medals per capita. The Aussie’s also enjoy fabulous recreational facilities & programs for the non-elite as a part of the government philosophy of “Sport for All”. It is commonplace throughout Australia for citizens to compete in some form of recreational sport for virtually their entire lives! From an academic perspective Australia offers great opportunities for university sport students to visit and study this fascinating model.
